732 Spams Since August 20 to My Gmail!!!

Okay, to be frank, the volume of spam arriving in my Gmail is getting to be a huge pain. 732 spams now sit in my Gmail spam box, all but a handful of which went directly where they were supposed to. Only a few ended up directly in the Gmail inbox. My Hotmail on the other hand, received just a few spam emails over this period, most of which came during the past 48 hours. Gmail's filters and blocking are doing a good job, but the volume is what is killer. The good news is that not a single legit email slipped into the spam box. I'll let readers know that I do not share my email openly, no chats or groups or anything like that. Time to purge the spam! I'm still trying to get a chance to tinker with Firefox/Mozilla Thunderbird. We'll see.

Spam Stock Tip, A Pump and Dump Case? (EXMT.PK)

I received an interesting spam email to my Gmail today from: Rodik Glasscock .

Subject: (no subject)

Body: http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=EXMT.PK

That's it. I went to Yahoo! Finance and also copy pasted the link. Same thing. It's for the company:
EXCHANGE MOBILE TELE (EXMT.PK).

It was up 50% today based on its nickel gain to $0.15 on 448,382 shares traded. The intra-day range was $0.12 - $0.17. I received the email around 11:35am Eastern, which was actually around its low of the day. Of course, I didn't purchase!

The stock has a 52wk range (but has only been trading since 16-May-07) of $0.07 - $0.51.

EXMT.PK appears to have been bought on fairly heavy volume on Friday. Volume was a bit higher Monday, as the email spread. EXMT.PK had a low of $0.08, a high of $0.15 and a close of $0.10 on Friday.

It looks like Exchange Mobile Tele (EXMT.PK) doesn't even have a website, or maybe it is in Chinese and not coming up among top results in a Google search. Regardless, this really looks like another pump and dump email stock spam scheme on the pink sheets. There are much higher quality listings and funds to choose from. Don't waste your time on Exchange Mobile Tele (EXMT.PK) or other scam stocks trading on the pink sheets. Remember liquidity on the pink sheets can dry up in a second. To give the Pink Sheets company some credit, it does have a lot of high quality stocks quoted, including ADRs such as Nestle
(NSRGY.PK) and Nintendo (NTDOY.PK).

200+ Spams to My Gmail Over the Weekend

The spam flows regardless of the day of the week, 221 to be exact, since last count. One thing is that I check less carefully for legit emails in the spambox over the weekend, since I'm not expecting anything official to come through Saturday-Sunday. Similar to earlier posts, only a few spams ended up in my Gmail inbox, meaning overall, Gmail's spam filters and blocker are doing their job. It's like beating a dead horse, but the biggest gripe is the volume of the spam, which never ceases, infiltrating the spam box day and night. My Windows Live Hotmail account continues to receive very little spam ("junk mail") and only the occasional spam slipping into the inbox. You do have to be careful with Hotmail, as I've said before, since Hotmail will filter legit emails as "junk."

I will be looking at using some third-party mail software such as Thunderbird and share what I find. In the meantime, have a good start to your week!

Spam on Fire: 107 Spams to My Gmail in Less than 24 Hours!

The spam keeps coming. Over 100 in less than 24 hours and I guess over 500 in about 48 hours. The great news, Google and Gmail are doing a great job of not putting any legit emails in the spam box. Also, the number of spam emails ending up in my Gmail inbox can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

What continues to be annoying is the large number of spams, which I must make sure are spam. So, hats off to Google and Gmail for doing a great job, but what can we do in general, about the large amount of spam?

It's worth mentioning that my Hotmail email account (now called Windows Live Hotmail), which used to get the most junk email, hardly gets any spam these days. I can probably can't on the fingers of one hand the amount of spam I receive daily to the Hotmail "junk" box. However, the problem with Hotmail is that legit emails do end up in the "junk" box with some frequency. The good news is that since the amount of spam is very little these days, it is easy to spot legit emails.

That's it for today. Enjoy the weekend!
